He has represented the United States at countless meets and events and was even named USA Track & Field’s Coach of the Year in 2013. But Johnson will travel to his first Olympic games very soon, coaching three hurdlers at the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Five Matadors Earn ITA Scholar-Athlete Honors
Five members of the CSUN women’s tennis team were named 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes, the ITA announced recently. Seniors Leslie Chang and Jessica Warren, juniors Scout Shutter and Mari Taslagyan and freshman Skyla Alcon all earned a spot on the team for their outstanding work in the classroom. All members of the 2016 ITA All-Academic Teams and ITA Scholar-Athletes will receive a certificate to recognize the achievement.

Sam Engel Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar
CSUN junior Sam Engel became the fourth Matador in the last three years to be named an All-America Scholar by Cleveland Golf/Srixon. Engel was one of 212 Division I players to earn the honor. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2. Each recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college of university.

On Sunday, July 24, the Matadors inducted a new class into the Matador Hall of Fame at a luncheon and ceremony at the Warner Center Marriott. More than 400 Matador friends and family attended the event, which was highlighted by emotional acceptance speeches and lots of celebration.
