Two Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies — along with bystanders, and fire department personnel, saved the life of a distraught man who was attempting to jump off of a bridge located on Whites Canyon Road, at Via Princessa in Canyon Country on Monday night.
Around 7:00 p.m. deputies responded to the location regarding an attempt suicide call. Deputy Jacob Royston was the first on scene. When he arrived, the man was standing on the outside of the bridge’s safety railing overlooking the train tracks. The man was attempting to fall from the railing, and reportedly saying, “Goodbye everyone,” and “My life doesn’t mean anything.”
Deputy Royston, joined by Deputy Jorge Garcia, grabbed onto the suicidal man as he struggled to release their grip. A few times, deputies said ‘he almost slipped away.’ Bystanders jumped in to assist deputies with securing the man to prevent him from falling.
Shortly after, Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene, and to the area below the bridge. The Metrolink Bureau was contacted to temporarily halt train travel through the area while the rescue was ongoing. About 7:50 p.m., fire department personnel placed a harness on the man and pulled him back over the rail safety. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.

How horribly sad. Prayers for the young man that he gets the treatment he needs. Another big thank you to our deputies and the fire department for helping him.
Thank you everyone! Now he knows that there are strangers who cared! ❤️
Heartbreaking. It seems our young men in their 20’s are struggling more than ever this past 10 years. Not enough jobs, not being able to move out of parents house gives no chance to feel like you are moving ahead with your life. Drugs, etc.
I don’t know what this young man is struggling with but I pray he finds the help he needs.
Be kind to our young men. They are struggling.
was watchin it from work
Also we need more “start overs”. When my 92 year old Uncle was growing up in Arizona he did something in Arizona. Not sure what family just says he “got in trouble”. They moved him to Los Angeles to live with his older sister. He finished High School and went to University and became a very successful attorney.
You get in trouble now and sometimes you can get it removed, but lots have it follow them. Can’t get work and sitting around all day leads to trouble.
