1946, 11:20pm: William S. Hart, 81, dies at L.A.'s California Lutheran Hospital, leaving his Newhall estate and his (now West) Hollywood home to the public [story]
Hart dies

Two unidentified men were cited and their vehicles impounded by a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputy for allegedly street racing on The Old Road Wednesday night, according to a post on the station’s Facebook page today.

Here’s the story:

One of our deputies caught two young men having a “speed contest” when patrolling the Valencia area last Wednesday night.

It was around 10:30 p.m. when he heard and saw the sounds of suspicious activity — tires screeching, loud roaring of engines. He saw two cars at an intersection near Valencia Boulevard and then traveling side-by-side on The Old Road, accelerating at an increasingly high rate of speed.

A traffic stop was conducted, and both vehicles were pulled over. The driver of the one vehicle was a 19-year-old from Porter Ranch. He admitted to the deputy he was street racing, and it was a “stupid mistake.” He said the other driver, a 20-year-old Saugus man, was his friend, and his brother was a passenger with him.

The deputy issued both drivers citations for engaging in a speed contest and impounded their vehicles for 30 days. He talked to them about driver safety and speed racing-related deaths.

There are a lot of contests you can have with your friends, but please NO SPEED CONTESTS. They are dangerous, they can kill you, your friends, and innocent motorists who just happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time — it’s not just fun and games.

We hope these two men learned their lesson. It was an expensive mistake: no car for 30 days and the impound fees will top $1,400 per vehicle — and that doesn’t even include the citation fine. However, as expensive as this night was for them, they still have their lives. And lives are priceless.

A 30-day impound isn’t enough of a deterrent. Maybe these two drivers learn something from this, but this is unlikely to make much of a difference to others. This stretch of road gets lots of traffic and there could have easily been fatalities.

  2. About time they start doing their job

  3. Put out spike strips

  4. Linda H says:

Good for the sheriffs deputies, these speed demon street racers deserve what they got.

  5. Good job deputies! Get those damn street racers off the streets!

THE FOLLOWERS OF THE FAST AND FURIOUS FRANCHISE ARE AS THOSE WITH A DISEASED WICKED MIND, A RELIGION OF DANGEROUS SELFISHNESS, CONTEMPT AND DISREGARD FOR OTHERS – THEY BOW TO THE EVIL TRINITY OF DODGE, VIN DEISEL AND THE FAST AND FURIOS FRANCHISE – It is a brotherhood of evil demons and other hell inspired cars http://commercecrash2-27-2016.blogspot.com/2016/10/the-thugs-and-criminals.html

  7. Thank you! Add Avenue Scott to your scope.

  8. I am glad police is taking this seriously. Focus on this irresponsible young punks more than regular drivers!!!

  9. Chris Jones says:

The City should make a legal Drag And Drift track. That would reduce a whole lot of Death and illegal racing. I think there is enough people and businesses that would help support it.
