The City of Santa Clarita unveiled a new art exhibit, “Zoology, works by LT Mustardseed,” on Jan. 27. The exhibit will be displayed through May 8 in the Town Center Art Space at the Westfield Valencia Town Center, located at 24201 Valencia Boulevard.
Lieutenant Mustardseed is a Desert Storm Veteran and a self-taught artist native to Los Angeles. She has created numerous public and private art commissions including the “Western Tiger Swallowtail” butterfly sculpture which will be reinstalled at a new location in Central Park this spring. Mustardseed uses machinery, welding and custom paint finishes to honor past traditions while creating unique works of art that represent the present. Design aesthetic, long-term durability and quality are paramount to her process.
The “Zoology, works by LT Mustardseed” exhibit will feature a whimsical collection of sculptures created from recycled materials. One sculpture, “Pawsha” was created 90 percent from objects used from a pet retail outlet in Santa Clarita. Another, “Punk Elican” is a sculpture of a pelican made completely from recycled steel, wood and other found objects.
