The nonprofit Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, Inc. and sponsor Superior Grocers in Pacoima handed out turkeys and all the fixings on Tuesday to 60 families to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends.
This has been an annual tradition for Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers dating as far back as when Reverend Samuel Dixon provided turkeys to families in the 1960s.
“This year we lost a sponsor who had donated turkeys each year, so we were unsure what we would be able to provide to our families,” said Dixon Center CEO Philip Solomon.
“We reached out to several local businesses, our employees and to Superior Grocers who supported our efforts from the previous year and had a tremendous response,” Solomon said. “We were able to provide much more than originally planned. A huge thanks to all who chipped in to make this event possible for our patient families.”
In addition to all the Thanksgiving food, SDFHC gave out plenty of day to day supplies such as hygiene supplies, vitamins, over the counter medicine, sunscreen and treated all to a BBQ lunch.
