LANCASTER – The JetHawks came back from three four-run deficits but wound up losing 11-8 in 11 innings to the Modesto Nuts at The Hangar Friday night.
It was the team’s first game playing as El Viento de Lancaster as part of Minor League Baseball’s Copa de la Diversión promotion.
Modesto (2-0) started hot, scoring the first four runs of the contest. Luis Liberato hit his second home run in as many nights to put the Nuts up, 4-0. Liberato led the way for the visitors with three hits.
The JetHawks fought back despite trailing 4-0, 6-2 and 8-4. Lancaster (0-2) rallied to score eight runs over the middle innings to tie the game, 8-8. A four-run sixth inning culminated with Taylor Snyder scoring on a wild pitch to knot things up.
Matt McLaughlin led the way on offense, going 3-for-5 with a pair of triples and two runs batted in. He reached base in four of six plate appearances.
After the sixth inning, it took until the eleventh for another run to score. The Nuts finally broke through in the top of the eleventh, scoring three runs on two hits. Joe Rizzo put the visitors in front with an RBI double.
Braxton Lorenzini (0-1) took the loss in relief, as the last of six JetHawks to pitch Friday. Jake Haberer (1-0) earned the win, pitching the final two innings for Modesto.
