An inmate who walked away from a conservation camp in Santa Clarita on Friday was apprehended Saturday afternoon in Riverside, according to a news release from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
At approximately 12:35 p.m., agents from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Special Service Unit located Pete Vega in a motel on University Avenue.
Vega was taken into custody without incident. He was being transported to the California Institution for Men, and his case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution.
Vega, 34, was discovered missing from Francisquito Conservation Camp at approximately 8:30 a.m. on May 10 during a routine inmate count.
Vega was received by CDCR from Riverside County in June 2018 with an eight-year sentence for two counts of possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a firearm by a felon and vehicle theft with prior vehicle-related theft convictions.
