1934 - Bouquet Canyon Reservoir, replacement for ill-fated St. Francis Dam & reservoir, begins to fill with water [story]
Bouquet Reservoir

[KHTS] – The family of a man who was killed in a motorcycle collision is seeking help from the Santa Clarita Valley community to raise funds for the man’s funeral.

Erik Martinez, 27, of Pacoima, was traveling northbound on the Interstate 5 freeway on Nov. 6 around 2:30 p.m. from San Fernando Road at an unknown speed, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. For unknown reasons, he veered to the right and onto the right shoulder where he collided with the metal guardrail.

Martinez was ejected off of his 2013 Honda 500 CDR and struck the dirt shoulder, according to the news release. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

erikmartinez“He loved his bike,” said Yadira Martinez, of wife Erik Martinez. “He wanted to get bigger bike and when he wasn’t riding his bike, he was looking at videos of bikes on Youtube.”

The Martinez family is now asking for help to raise money for a funeral for Erik Martinez.

“Everybody that I know is trying to help me as little as they can,” said Yadira Martinez, who works at a dentist office in Canyon Country. “There’s only so much they can put together for him.”

An account has been set up on the Giveforward website. The goal is to reach $3,000.

The couple married two years ago and would have been together for nine years this coming March.

The couple did not have any children but had three dogs, who were like their children, Yadira Martinez said.

“He was a very humble man, very sweet. He smiled all the time,” Yadira Martinez said. “He would always do anything for anybody. He was very giving and he had a big heart.”

“He always had a big smile on his face,” added Coral Briano, a cousin of Yadira Martinez.

The family hopes to have the funeral this weekend because the brother of Erik Martinez is in the military and only has so much leave, she said.

The autopsy for the body of Erik Martinez is pending, said Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner’s Office.

“The police are still investigating,” Yadira Martinez said. “They don’t understand how the accident happened.  They don’t know whether to blame the bike or blame a health incident. They’re investigating everything.”

The collision is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

“If anybody could help,” Briano said, “that would be really good for my cousin.”

I dont understand Why everybody asks for help when something like this happens.. Its fine for people to donate, But dont ask for it..

  2. There is only one reason to ask and it’s because there is no enough money I hope you’ll never on a situation like that

  3. When you’re in a situation where you lost your loved one unexpectedly and can’t afford to bury them then maybe you’ll understand.

  4. Maria Esther Maria Esther says:

Life insurance. Get it through primerica. It’s affordable. Get it while you’re young and healthy to lock in a low rate for long term. If you can afford an iphone, cable tv, etc, You can afford life ins. I understand why people ask for help, it’s because they’re not aware that they could afford life ins and nobody ever thinks about It until it’s too late. :( I hope the family finds the help they need. Very sad.

  5. Omg!! Here we go again. Why some people can be so cold hearted. If you don’t want to help, That’s fine. Just wish your own self, that you never in a tight situation, like the family in need now.

Am pretty sure that Family in need would rather read.
    1.Am sorry for your lost.
2.I’ll keep your family in my prayers
    3. RIP
    Than your negative comments.
A helping hand goes a long way, TODAY for that FAMILY need. TOMORROW YOU.

  6. I don’t think Brian was trying to be insensitive … it does seem that everyone is always asking for help for everything … I think its a generation thing.. very rarely do you hear of older people asking for handouts … the whole story didn’t pop up though, what is the Santa Clarita connection.. didn’t he live in Pacoima ?

Hey I live with my granny. She died a good 4 months ago, then I had to get emergency open heart surgery Lost my car barely able to pay for my house had to take all my retirement money out at age 25, not on any disability food stamps any government hand outs, so dont patronize me. Dont give me this oh maybe I’ll understand if it happens to me. Everybody dies, but theres more important things people can donate money too. in MY opinion I just think its rude for people to ask. Has nothing to do with somebody being cold hearted

  8. cremation is not as expensive as a funeral service. They should set up a go fund acct.

  9. Seriously, I can’t begin to explain how important life insurance is, people. No one wants to think about it but if the worst happens, your family will be the ones bearing the financial burden. Better safe than sorry.

  10. glady says:

dear family im so sorry for your loss…i shall pray and those that want to give will and those that can’t or don’t want to , everyone is correct, no one is wrong here…they may receive a little bit ,more than what they have now…good luck…
