Local kids and their families can participate in a free Valentine’s Day event with the 11th Annual Hearts for Heroes program, hosted by Prayer Angels for the Military, at all three of the Santa Clarita Public Library branches.
The events will occur from noon to 2 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the Valencia Library and from noon to 2 p.m. on Feb. 14 at the Old Town Newhall and Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Libraries.
At this heartfelt event, community kids will make Valentine’s Day cards for United States troops in Afghanistan as well as local firefighters, EMT’s and law enforcement officers. They will also assemble care packages for U.S. troops overseas. There will be meet and greet opportunities with local heroes, light refreshments and prizes for participants.
Donations are encouraged and can be dropped off at the event or made in advance at official drop boxes located at 21609 Oak Orchard Road or 23510 Cherry Street. Care package donation suggestions include: beef jerky, three to four blade razors, body wash, white or black cotton crew socks, individual drink packets, canned meals such as hearty soups or fruits with pop-top lids and dried fruit. Tax-deductible monetary donations can be mailed to Prayer Angels for the Military at 21609 Oak Orchard Road or made online at www.PrayerAngelsfortheMilitary.com.
The Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library is located at 18601 Soledad Canyon Road. The Old Town Newhall Library is located at 34500 Main Street. The Valencia Library is located at 23743 W. Valencia Boulevard.
