[National Weather Service] – A series of storm systems will move across southwestern California through Monday morning, bringing periods of light to moderate rainfall to the area.
A moist southwesterly flow will continue to generate intermittent light showers tonight (Thursday) followed by a period of moderate precipitation that will begin mid-day on Friday and will coninue into the overnight hours.
Another period of heavier precipitation will begin late on Saturday and continue through Sunday night. At this time, the storm system on Sunday has the potential to be the strongest and wettest.
As these systems move south and east across the area, they will weaken. Therefore, San Luis Obispo county will receive the greatest amount of rainfall, with totals tapering off as the weather moves across Santa Barbara, Ventura and then Los Angeles counties.
For coastal and valley areas, rainfall totals through Sunday night will range from 1 to 3 inches across San Luis Obispo County, down to one-quarter to three-quarters of an inch across Los Angeles County. In the foothills and mountains, upslope flow will generate higher totals ranging from 3 to 5 inches across San Luis Obispo County, down to a half-inch to 1.5 inches across Los Angeles County.
Snow levels through Sunday night are expected to remain above 8,000 feet. Therefore, only the highest peaks will have any chance of receiving measurable rainfall.
