A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 60 years to life in state prison for the gang murder of a man at Begonias Lane Park in Santa Clarita two years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

A jury found Nicholas Colletta of Saugus guilty last year of one count each of first-degree murder with the allegation that the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang, possession of a firearm by a felon with three priors, unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm.

Jurors also found true that the defendant personally and intentionally discharged a handgun and caused great bodily injury.

Co-defendant Jacqueline Arreola, 26, of Newhall pleaded no contest on April 3 to one count of accessory after the fact. She testified as a witness in Colletta’s trial.

Deputy District Attorneys Adan Montalban and Brenda Lee of the Hardcore Gang Division prosecuted case PA089346.

On July 11, 2017, Ivan Solis, 25, was shot to death at the park by Colletta after the defendant issued a gang challenge, prosecutors said. Following the shooting, both defendants fled the scene in a vehicle, prosecutors added.

Sentencing for Arreola is scheduled on May 20 in Department F of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, San Fernando Branch.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Santa Clarita Station.

He took a father’s life. He should sit in prison for the rest of his life……

  2. John Bhatti says:

You don’t even know the circumstances, they both were gang members, Ivan was in RIVAL territory at 430am after his gang just killed his best friend and mentor in the drive way of his own home in which no suspects have been found on that case and his mentor was also a father of 3 but they don’t put that in the headlines on his case.. they depict Ivan as so innocent but he banged Newhall 13 had the tattoos to prove it, anyone would be on edge if their rival gang member came at them at night time randomly, and they show old pictures of Ivan, Ivan was a scary looking dude with tattoos all over his face. So yeah I bet you didn’t know all that now did you?

  3. Lisa says:

I know exactly what happened. My Son was Ivan’s best friend and was there when he was shot. Colletta is rite where he belongs. Ivan was free to visit friends wherever he wanted to. He did not kill anyone in front of their own home. He was a kind and caring person. That’s no reason to be approached, shot and killed. Colletta took the life of a Son who’s mom is still mourning him. This is JUSTICE FOR IVAN. 🕊️REST IN BEAUTIFUL PEACE IVAN🕊️ ✝️
