Senior Megan Dawe scored 27 points and the Saugus defense held Valencia to 28 as the Centurions defeated the Vikings 50-28 Tuesday night in girls Foothill League basketball at Saugus High School.
The game was televised by SCVTV.
The Vikings (9-10, 1-2) have averaged over 58 points per game this season, but on Tuesday a combination of bad shooting and great defense kept the ball from falling through the net.
Valencia scored six in the first quarter, seven in the second, six in the third and nine in the fourth. It may have been the first time a Valencia girls basketball team failed to score in double digits in four consecutive quarters of a game.
Dawe, on the other hand, was spectacular. She scored ten of her game-high 27 points in the the third quarter, helping the Centurions (12-8, 2-1) increase their 11-point halftime lead.
Both Kayla Hiller and Jordan Oster contributed seven points each for the Centurions.
Valencia shot just 2-of-8 from the free throw line, while Saugus made 14-of-17 from the charity stripe.
