Bryan Herta Autosport is on the upswing as the Izod IndyCar Series heads to Texas Motor Speedway.
Alex Tagliani, driving for the team owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta, is coming off his best finish of the season, a 10th place at Belle Isle in Michigan.
He was in the top five at Texas in last year’s race.
Qualifying for the Firestone 550 at Texas Motor Speedway is this afternoon. The race is scheduled for Saturday night.
In college baseball, UCLA begins play in the Super Regionals of the NCAA College World Series tonight against Texas Christian.
The UCLA baseball roster is loaded with players from the Santa Clarita Valley, including Trevor Brown, a Hart High grad who was drafted by the San Francisco Giants.
Brown is one of the UCLA’s best hitters and leads the Bruins with 50 RBIs and 13 doubles.
Hart High grad Pat Valaika and Valencia grad Shane Zeile are also on the UCLA baseball team.
In the NBA playoffs, the Miami Heat beat the Boston Celtics, 98-79, in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final and LeBron James had one of the best playoff games of his career.
He scored 45 points and had 15 rebounds against the Celtics. James set a playoff career best with 45 points in 45 minutes and was 19 of 26 from the field.
The series heads back to Miami for a decisive Game 7. The winner will play the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals.
In hockey, the Kings are headed to New Jersey for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup final against the Devils. The Kings are undefeated on the road in the playoffs, at 10-0, and have a 3-1 lead in the series.
The Kings have yet to play a Game 6 in the playoffs this year, but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.
