The City of Santa Clarita will kick off the first workshop in a three-part hands-on series designed to educate students in kindergarten through 12th grade on how to prevent pollution and protect the environment beginning Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 4 p.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library, located at 24500 Main Street.
Each of the three workshops are open to the public and will include a visual, 3-D landscape with a contained mini watershed, known as an “Enviroscape” model, which demonstrates how pollution is created and how it can be prevented. This interactive model allows students to view different actions to better understand the sources of water pollution while emphasizing pollution prevention by showing best management practices with a follow up demonstration.
“It is important for youth to understand how their actions can affect the environment and learn ways to prevent it in communities in which we live,” said Mayor Bob Kellar. “Keeping the environment clean is everyone’s responsibility. We hope these presentations will leave a lasting impression on how students can prevent water pollution and protect Santa Clarita’s natural resources.”
The Valencia Library will host the second presentation at Wednesday, April 10, at 4 p.m., at 23743 West Valencia Boulevard. The final presentation will take place Wednesday, May 8, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Canyon Country Library located at 18601 Soledad Canyon Road.
