[KHTS] – At its annual organizational meeting Thursday, the Castaic Union School District’s governing board appointed board member David Huffaker as the new board president and Steve Teeman as the new clerk.

Board members Susan Christopher, Laura Pearson and Victor Torres, who were unopposed in this year’s school board elections, were also sworn in for new four-year terms that end in 2017.

Huffaker replaced Christopher as president and will serve in that position until Dec. 11, 2014.

A Castaic resident since 1985, Huffaker has been held positions in various community organizations over the years, including president of the Live Oak Elementary School Site Council and treasurer of the Val Verde Civic Association.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and a Juris Doctorate from Brigham Young University.

Huffaker currently works as an attorney and has served on the Castaic District board since 2003. His term ends in December 2015.

Christopher, also an attorney, teaches political science at College of the Canyons and administers two mentoring programs for youth in Los Angeles public schools.

She has been a CUSD board member since 2009 and is up for reelection in 2017.

“It was such an honor to be the rpesident of Castaic Board this last year,” Christopher said. “It just felt like being part of a really effective, positive, moving team.”

She also said that Huffaker’s extended experience as a board member and previous terms as president made him a good choice for the position.

“Dave Huffaker was part of the Castaic Board long before I got here,” Christopher said. “It’s great to see him back in the chair as president.”

Steve Teeman, replacing Pearson as clerk, has lived in Castaic since 2003 and spent several years–2007 through 2010–serving on the Castaic Town Council.

An United States Air Force veteran and a Certified Public Accountant, he is currently the CFO for a manufacturing company in Santa Clarita.

He has been on the CUSD board since 2007.

The new positions for all five board members are:

* David Huffaker, President

* Steve Teeman, Clerk

* Victor Torres, Presiding Officer in absence of president and clerk and Representative to County Committee on School District Organization

* Susan Christopher, Special Education Local Plan Area Representative
