UPDATE Aug. 25:

At noon today, Homicide detectives, with the assistance of Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office recovered a vehicle that was discovered on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, approximately 500ft down the embankment of Angeles Crest Highway near mile marker 41.

The vehicle is a Silver Honda CRV that was connected to Kimberly Blum, a female White 47 years-old, who was reported missing by her mother to Los Angeles Police Department, Foothill Division in June 2014.

Yesterday and today, detectives and personnel from the Coroner’s, office recovered skeletal remains that were found in the area near the vehicle.

The cause of death and identity of the deceased will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

On Wednesday, August 24, 2016, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives responded to Angeles Crest Highway, in Angeles National Forest near Mt. Wilson regarding the discovery of human remains.

Homicide detectives learned that on Tuesday, Aug. 23, Cal Trans personnel discovered skid marks on Angeles Crest Highway.  Crescenta Valley Sheriff station personnel responded and ultimately learned that an SUV was located approximately 500 feet down the side of Angeles Crest Highway.  Montrose Search and Rescue personnel repelled down the side of the mountain, and inspected the vehicle, which appeared to have been abandoned for some time.  Deputies checked the vehicle identification number and learned the vehicle was connected to a 2014 missing person investigation being conducted by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Montrose Search and Rescue personnel resumed the search of the area this morning at approximately 8:00 am and found human skeletal remains near the vehicle.  Members of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner responded with homicide detectives to collect the remains and conduct a thorough search of the area.

The identity of the victim remains unknown and the cause of death will be determined following an autopsy.

Detectives learned the skid marks discovered on the highway near the recovery site were caused by a recent unrelated traffic collision.

There is no further information at this time.
