SAN JOSE – Brian Serven delivered three hits, including a triple that led to the game-tying run and an extra-innings home run, to lead the JetHawks to a 9-6 win over the San Jose Giants in 10 innings on Friday night at Municipal Stadium.

With Lancaster (32-22, 65-59) down, 5-4, in the ninth, Serven led off with a triple against reliever Frank Rubo (1-2). He would score on a wild pitch to tie the game. The JetHawks would put runners at first and third with one out, but Colton Welker hit into an inning-ending double play.

After Heath Hodler (9-1) pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth, Bret Boswell delivered a two-out, two-strike, two-run triple off the right field wall to break the 5-5 tie in the 10th. The previous hitters had failed to advance the free-runner, Max George, to third base with fewer than two outs. Serven followed with a line-drive home run to left field, his 11th of the season, to push the lead to four runs.

Justin Lawrence allowed an unearned run but finished off the Giants (18-36, 52-72) in the first of a three-game series.

The JetHawks had overcome a three-run deficit earlier in the game to tie the Giants in the sixth, 4-4. With the bases loaded and two outs, Alan Trejo battled Domenic Mazza in a 10-pitch plate appearance before working a walk to bring home a run. Rodolfo Martinez entered from the bullpen and gave up an RBI-single to Boswell and issued a bases-loaded walk to Serven to force home the tying run.

San Jose pushed a run across in the seventh against Salvador Justo to retake the lead.

Matt Dennis allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings in his start. He finished strong, retiring the Giants in order for in his final inning, the sixth, with two strikeouts after the JetHawks had tied the game in the top half.

Boswell drove home the JetHawks first run of the game with a RBI-single in the second inning. He finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Serven was 3-for-4 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs. Manny Melendez recorded two hits to extend his hitting streak to a personal-best 16 games.

The win gave Lancaster a two-game lead over Inland Empire for the final playoff spot in the South Division with 16 games to play.

Lancaster and San Jose matched up in the middle game of the series on Saturday.
