RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – After clinching the first half South Division title on Saturday night, the Lancaster JetHawks fell to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 8-4, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at LoanMart Field.

The JetHawks finished the first half with a 38-32 record, two games ahead of the second place Quakes (36-34).

Wes Rogers went 3-for-5 out of the leadoff spot with two stolen bases and finished the half with a league-leading 36 steals. He helped break a 1-1 tie in the second inning when he followed a Robbie Perkins double with his second hit of the game. Both Perkins and Rogers scored on a Sam Hilliard base hit to give Lancaster a 3-1 advantage.

The Quakes would come back with two unearned runs in the third to tie the game. An error with two outs allowed a run to scored and extended the inning for Garrett Kennedy who delivered an RBI single to tie the game.

Helmis Rodriguez made his first start of the season for the JetHawks and lasted three innings. He allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits. The JetHawks used a total of five pitchers in the contest.

Two more unearned runs scored against the JetHawks in the fifth inning to give the Quakes a lead they would not relinquish. With runners on second and third and two outs, Max Schuh (1-4) struck out Omar Estevez swinging, but the ball kicked away from Perkins. The catcher chased it down at the backstop and threw to first in time, but dropped the throw and both runners scored. The play was ruled an error on Ramos.

Rancho Cucamonga would add a run in the sixth to increase the lead to 6-3.

Caleb Ferguson (2-4) struck out eight Lancaster hitters over five innings to pick up the win. He allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits.

The JetHawks scored their final run in the eighth inning. Yonathan Daza led off with a double and eventually scored on a Hilliard ground ball. Rancho Cucamona responded with two runs in the eighth to go up, 8-4.

Lancaster loaded the bases against Quakes reliever Daniel Corcino in the ninth inning. With Ramos coming to the plate, the Quakes called upon former JetHawk left-hander Chris Cotton. Cotton, who pitched for the JetHawks in 2014 and 2015, got Ramos to fly out to the warning track in centerfield to pick up the save in his Dodgers organization debut.

A league-high nine JetHawks will travel to Visalia for the California League All-Star Game. The JetHawks host the Quakes in the second half opener on Thursday night at The Hangar. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
