LANCASTER, Calif. – The California League announced today that Lancaster JetHawks shortstop Brendan Rodgers has been named the California League Player of the Week for the week of June 5-11.
Rodgers, 20, hit .448 (13×29) with three doubles, three home runs, six RBI and 10 runs scored over six games. His performance this week helped him up his season batting average to a league-leading .402 (74×184) through 42 games.
The Rockies’ top-ranked prospect according to Baseball America and MiLB.com, Rodgers extended his current hitting streak to 19 games, the longest in the Cal League this season. He’s hitting .443 (39×88) with 8 doubles, eight homers and 23 RBI during the streak which began on May 21.
This is the third Cal League Player of the Week honor for Rodgers this season giving him the most weekly awards for a JetHawk since first baseman A.J. Reed was named player of the week four times in 2015. A Lancaster player has been named player of the week five times this season, all in the past six weeks.
Aside from leading the Cal League in batting average, Rodgers enters the day pacing the circuit in OBP (.423), slugging (.707), OPS (1.129) and total bases (130). The third overall pick in the 2015 draft ranks second in the league in doubles (19) and is tied for second with 11 home runs.
