SAN JOSE – The JetHawks battled to beat the San Jose Giants, 8-7, in 10 innings to split the series and jump back into a first-place tie in the South Division on Monday night at Municipal Stadium.

Lancaster (18-20) scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning to take an 8-6 lead. San Jose (22-16) quickly scored a run in the bottom half of the inning on a Matt Winn RBI-double against reliever Heath Holder (3-0). Holder struck out Frandy De La Rosa, but a wild pitch during the at-bat moved the potential tying run to third base.

JetHawks closer Reid Humphreys was summoned from the bullpen and recorded the final two outs to strand the runner at third and finish off his league-leading eighth save.

Lancaster took advantage of multiple Giants miscues in the contest. Down, 4-1, in the fifth inning, the JetHawks scored four runs, three of which were unearned thanks to a Gio Brusa error, to take the lead, 5-4.

The Giants promptly tied the game in the fifth against starter Logan Longwith. The right-hander allowed five runs on eight hits in five innings of work.

Vince Fernandez scored a go-ahead run in the sixth inning on a passed ball to put Lancaster up, 6-5, but the Giants scored a run without needing a hit in the eighth inning to tie it up again. Justin Lawrence issued three walks in the inning and the tying run scored on a ground out.

Rodolfo Martinez (3-2) took the loss in relief for San Jose.

The JetHawks enter play tomorrow in a first-place tie with Inland Empire, one game ahead of third-place Rancho Cucamonga in the South Division.

The Visalia Rawhide visit The Hangar on Tuesday to begin a three-game series. Brandon Gold (3-2) is scheduled to start against former JetHawk Kevin McCanna (1-0). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
