LANCASTER – The California League announced Monday that Lancaster JetHawks third baseman Colton Welker has been named the California League Player of the Week for the extended week of April 5–15.
Welker hit .455 (15-for-33) with a 1.426 OPS. He added 4 doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI and 13 runs scored while drawing 11 walks.
Through the season’s first 10 games, Welker leads the league in batting, on-base percentage, OPS, walks and runs scored.
Welker, 20, entered the season ranked as the Colorado Rockies 4th-ranked prospect by Baseball America.
The award marks the first Player of the Week honor for Lancaster since infielder Garrett Hampson won the award for the week of August 7–13, 2017.
The JetHawks won six Player of the Week awards in 2017 and two Pitcher of the Week awards.
