The annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast put on by the Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club will be collecting money a local charity that recently lost property in a fire.
For the first time, there will be a tip jar where people can donate money to The Triumph Foundation, said Dave Reeves from Reeves complete auto center, who has been a Rotarian for six years.
“We’ve never had a tip jar before, but I think from now on we will have one and we’ll donate the money from it to a local charity,” Reeves said.
The pancake breakfast is held at the Rodger Dunn golf shop on Main street in Newhall from 6:30-9:45 a.m. on July 4th. Tickets are $4 each and they are sold at the door.
The pancake breakfast is the beginning to 4th of July events here in Santa Clarita, with the parade starting at 9 a.m.
Eighteen units in Edd’s Mini & RV Storage located at the 17300 block of Sierra Highway, were engulfed by fire at about 7 p.m. on June 25.
Triumph’s Foundation, a local nonprofit organization, had a storage unit that lost property to the fire worth at least $10,000 said Andrew Skinner, executive director of the foundation.
“We lost a lot of inventory; more than 50 care baskets, backpacks, equipment, supplies, and items for our fundraiser’s silent auction,” according to a post on Triumph Foundation’s Facebook page.
The Triumph Foundation helps educate people who have suffered spinal cord injuries and exposes them to resources that will help them continue living a successful life, according to the foundation’s website.
“We are still in shock,” Skinner said. “A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into it; it was invaluable.”

The proceeds that the Rotarians are able to collect at the annual pancake breakfast, allow the organization to give money to different organizations throughout the year, according to Reeves.
“This allows us to give back to the community,” Reeves said.
