1978 - Concert scene for "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park" filmed at Magic Mountain [story]
KISS

The William S. Hart Museum located in Hart Park in Santa Clarita will kick off summer with two free events this Saturday, June 16, for attendees of all ages.

Between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., the Ranch House area will be the site of “A Day at the Ranch; California Native Flora and Fauna and the Hart Museum will be hosting an Open House between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

This year’s A Day at the Ranch will provide hands-on activities about California’s indigenous plants and native wildlife.

Event organizer, Madison Leas, says, “William S. Hart’s love of Santa Clarita’s landscape is evidenced in his will which stated that he preferred all plants, shrubs, trees, grass, and flowers planted in Hart Park be indigenous to California. We are putting Hart’s forward thinking on display with an activity where participants will be able to plant their own California Buckwheat seed in a recyclable container that they can transfer to their own home.”

Another activity will focus on identifying local wildlife footprints and then creating a wildlife footprint stamp to take home. These activities will take place at the Ranch House, once part of Hart’s Horseshoe Ranch. It is located between the Park’s picnic area and the Trading Post gift store.

The William S. Hart Museum’s Open House event is an opportunity for visitors to leisurely wander the rooms of Hart’s 1927 hilltop Mansion without a formal tour time. Docents will be stationed throughout the Museum to provide information about Hart’s vast collection of Native American artifacts and western art and answer any questions about Hart and his home.

The William S. Hart Mansion is located at the top of the hill in Hart Park in Santa Clarita. Parking passes for the lot behind the Mansion are available for those individuals unable to walk up the nature trail to the Mansion. A pass may be obtained at the Hart Park Office, Trading Post, or by calling the Museum at 661-254-4584. The Hart Park entrance is located at 24151 Newhall Avenue, Santa Clarita, CA 91321.

If you would like more information about this event, please contact the Hart Museum at (661) 254-4584.
