With the filing period scheduled to open in July for candidates planning to run for election to a school district or community college board seat, the Santa Clarita Valley School Board Trustees Association will host a School Board Candidate Orientation night on Monday, June 4, at the Hart District Office Board Room.
Seats on the Castaic, Hart, Saugus, Sulphur Springs, Newhall and College of the Canyons governing boards will be up for election in November.
To help candidates understand the role of governing board members and prepare for the election process, current school board members will present information on a range of topics such as the timeline and process for filing for candidacy with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk; the Ralph M. Brown Act; the role and responsibilities of school board members; school funding; and the board meeting agenda.
Following the presentations, a question-and-answer session will offer attendees an opportunity to ask for more specific information.
The orientation is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Monday, June 4, and will be conducted in the Board Room of the William S. Hart District Union High School District Administrative Center, located at 21380 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita, 91350.
The filing period for school board elections will be between July 16 – Aug. 10. For more information on elections, visit www.lavote.net, which is part of the Los Angeles County Registrar’s website.
For additional information on the Candidate Orientation, contact Linda Storli, President of the Trustees Association, at (661)313-8960.
