MISSION VIEJO — College of the Canyons suffered its first loss of the season with a 4-2 road defeat at the hands of Saddleback College on Tuesday.

Canyons (3-1-1) was downed by three unanswered goals from Saddleback (4-1-1), including two in the second half.

Sophomore Rebekah Brooks put COC on the board 1-0 in the 6th minute with her fifth goal in as many games this season.

The Bobcats’ netted an equalizer in the 24th minute on a score from Kylie Beu.

Roughly six minutes later it was Laurel Durkin with her first score of the season, by way of an assist from Ryan Shepherd to put Canyons back on top at 2-1.

Just 40 seconds later Lacy Ruston was able to beat Canyons keeper Kylie Yuzon to tie the score at 2-2, which is where things stayed heading into halftime.

The second half proved to be all Bobcats with Saddleback able to come away with a goal in the 46th minute to move ahead 3-2, then added an insurance score in the 66th minute for a 4-2 final score.

Yuzon (2-1-1) took the loss but was credited with 14 saves in the contest. COC was credited with nine shots and one corner kick in the match.

Canyons will look to get back on track with a non-conference home tilt vs. Santa Barbara College on Friday, Sept. 23. That game is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start time and will be broadcast free of charge to fans via YouTube on the Cougars Sports Network.
