SANTA BARBARA — The Lady Cougars carded a four-player score of 325 at Santa Barbara Gold Club, highlighted by round of 78 from freshman Jessie Lin to win the second Western State Conference (WSC) tournament of the season on Monday.
Lin’s six-over-par score bested the second-place scores turned in by Alexa Bleth (80) of Santa Barbara City College and Georgia Shevitt (80) of Moorpark College.
In the team standings, Canyons topped the six-team field followed by SBCC (333) and third place Bakersfield College (372). Moorpark College (408), Citrus College (412) and Antelope Valley College (469) followed to round out the field.
COC freshman Haruka Koda, who earned medalist honors at the first WSC event of the year, and sophomore Joanna Roecker both came back to the clubhouse with scores of 82. Freshman Paige Heuer also factored into the final score with a round of 83.
Gina Chung (84) and Shabana Poswal (91) both competed for the Cougars, but had their scores dropped from the final tally.
After two conference events Canyons sits atop the WSC standings.
COC will next compete at Kern River Golf Course on Monday, Sept. 17, in the third WSC event of the season. Tee time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
