SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Master’s College women’s basketball team improved its record to 22-3 and 12-1 in GSAC play after beating the Hope International University Royals 67-52 Saturday night on Bross Court.
“The measure of improvement isn’t always measured by wins, but by focus and team identity,” commented TMC head coach Dan Waldeck. “I thought that tonight we executed at key times for the victory. I’m proud of Kelly [Burns] and Sydney [Emory], who played a huge role in tonight’s victory.”
Burns finished the evening with 10 points, while Emory was close behind with nine. Bianca Cubello scored a game-leading 15 points, while Chayan Lowery also reached double figures by draining 11 more. Notably, both Cubello and Lowery yanked down 11 rebounds.
After four tightly-contested quarters (18-13, 10-13, 18-17, 21-9), the Lady Mustangs finished the evening by going 25-61 (41%) from the field, 7-14 (50%) on three pointers, and 10-14 (71%) on free throws.
Arguably the biggest highlight of the evening came after the game when TMC’s three senior players (Shannon Kingery, Nicole Nitake, and Olivia Thompson) were honored for their years of service to the Lady Mustangs both on and off the court. After Saturday’s game, Nitake became TMC’s All-time leader in three-point field goal percentage (41.9%).
Now, the 10th-ranked Lady Mustangs set their sights on Tuesday where they will compete in their final home game of the season as they welcome No. 9 Vanguard University to Bross Court. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
