SAINT GEORGE, Utah. – The University of Antelope Valley Pioneers were defeated by Dixie State University in an exhibition contest on Saturday, 74-60, in intercollegiate women’s basketball action inside Burns Arena in Saint George, Utah.
After taking down the No. 1-ranked Lions of NAIA Div. I Vanguard University eight days ago, the Pioneers played their final exhibition of the season and were outscored in each period but the fourth as the Trailblazers would win handily, 74-60.
Sophomore forward Alexia Budd (Los Angeles, CA) led all Pioneers with 16 points and also added a team-high five rebounds and stole the ball once, senior guard Samantha Earl (Clovis, CA) contributed 13 points, two assists, one rebound and one blocked shot, and senior guard Ilianna Blanc (Los Angeles, CA) scored 12 points and added two assists and one steal.
UAV hit 22-of-70 field goals (.314), 11-of-34 three-pointers (.324), 5-of-13 free throws (.385), and were outrebounded by the Trailblazers, 48-33. UAV committed 10 turnovers and stole the ball seven times. DSU made 19-of-47 shots (.404), 6-of-17 three-pointers (.353) and 30-of-31 free throws (.968) and committed 19 turnovers and stole the ball from UAV four times.
NEXT GAME: Coached by Deon Price, the Pioneers return home to host California State University-Maritime for a California Pacific Conference game on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 5:30 p.m. PST inside the Pioneer Event Center (PEC) in Lancaster, Calif.
