RANCHO CUCAMONGA – The Lancaster JetHawks fell behind in the first inning and couldn’t find the big hit to get them back in the game in a 5-2 loss to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Friday night at LoanMart Field.
The JetHawks (5-4, 39-38) went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base, seven of which were left in scoring position.
The biggest opportunity to get even came in the eighth when the Lancaster loaded the bases thanks to two walks and a single. They managed just one run in the inning on a wild pitch.
The Quakes (4-5, 45-32) jumped on starter Ryan Rolison (2-4, pictured above) early. After the left-hander hit Devin Mann to start the bottom of the first, Deacon Liput hit his first home run of the season to put Rancho up, 2-0. They added another run later in the frame on a Connor Wong RBI-single.
Jeter Downs added to the Quakes total with a solo homer in the third.
The JetHawks scratched across their first run in the top of the fourth. Matt Hearn walked to start the inning, stole second base and took third when the catcher Wong’s throw bounced into centerfield. Luis Castro plated Hearn with sac-fly, tallying his league-leading 57th RBI.
Rolison gave up another home run in the sixth to Niko Hulsizer. The left-hander had not allowed three home runs in any other of his professional starts.
In total Rolison allowed five runs (four earned) over six innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
Andre Jackson (1-1) struck out nine JetHawks over 5.1 innings. He allowed one run on three hits.
Sven Schueller recorded the final five outs to pick up his second save.
Here’s the box score.
The four-game series continued with the third game on Saturday night.
