[HMNMH] – With two locations in Santa Clarita, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s free Spine Education Program offers valuable information on how you can take better care of your spine, including lifestyle changes that may help with pain management and prevent future back and neck injuries. The next class is 5-6 p.m., June 13, at Henry Mayo’s Ambulatory Care Center, 25751 McBean Pkwy, Valencia.

Physical therapists serve as instructors, using models to discuss the anatomy of the spine, spine disorders, correct posture and body mechanics and several other topics such as exercise, pain management. The free class is interactive and participants are encouraged to ask questions.

”We did not come with a spine owner’s manual, but through this class participants can learn what to do to keep their spines strong and healthy,” said Julie Barker, PT, physical therapy supervisor. “We demonstrate examples of everyday activities like mowing the lawn, vacuuming, and doing the laundry to illustrate how to apply the correct posture and body mechanics to your lifestyle. Participants can expect to leave with a better understanding of how their spine works and practical methods for improving their spinal health.”

The class is designed for all age groups, from the active athlete to the sedentary senior. Those attending the classes are also provided with printed information including community resources.

Henry Mayo’s free spine classes will provide attendees information about attaining and maintaining better spine health. Classes are offered 5 to 6 p.m. every 4th Wednesday at Henry Mayo’s Outpatient Therapy Services, Golden Valley Plaza, 19013 Golden Valley Road, #125, Santa Clarita, and every second Wednesday, 5 – 6 p.m. at Henry Mayo’s Ambulatory Care Center, 25751, #310 McBean Parkway, Valencia.
