Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R- Santa Clarita, honored Jim Lentini of Santa Clarita as the 38th Assembly District’s “Veteran of the Year” for 2016.
“Without the sacrifice of Mr. Lentini and all those who serve our country, Americans would not enjoy the freedoms we value on a daily basis,” said Wilk. “Our veterans risked their lives to defend our nation and their willingness to serve commands the utmost respect. It is an honor to recognize Mr. Lentini in the State Capitol as the 38th Assembly District Veteran of the Year.”
Lentini is a United States Army veteran who served in Panmunjom, Korea from 1960 until being honorably discharged in 1962. Working in the Army Military Police, Lentini served a tour of duty in the Joint Security Area of the Demilitarized Zone, the site of the well-known peace talks between U.N. troops and North Korea. He remained in the Army Reserves until 1966.
After completing national service, Lentini became deeply involved in the Santa Clarita veteran community. He formed the SCV Rotary Veterans Committee as well as volunteering regularly for the Habitat for Humanity which is dedicated to helping returning service men and women return to civilian life.
The 38th Assembly District encompasses Simi Valley, the northwestern section of the San Fernando Valley and most of the Santa Clarita Valley.
