Castaic Elementary School is collecting gently used children’s clothing and toys for the victims of the Creek Fire in Sylmar.
“We have had an overwhelming response of donations,” said Principal Stephanie Beach. “So much so, we’ve had to open up a second drop-off point at Firehouse Subs (in Valencia) for those who couldn’t make it up to Castaic. And it also allowed for more members of the community to get involved.”
Beach said the idea for the collection drive came from a parent whose family recently moved from Sylmar and whose child now attends Castaic Elementary.
It was their way of giving back to a community they still had ties with, Beach said.
Firehouse Subs will continue collecting donations through tonight, while Castaic Elementary will continue collecting items until Friday morning, after which the goods will be delivered to Sylmar Elementary School.
