A man has allegedly confessed to shooting a man and leaving his body near Sand Canyon Road Wednesday night.

David Aldana, 21, walked into the U.S. Port of Entry Customs Border Protection Office in San Ysidro on Wednesday night and claimed that he had killed a person in the Canyon Country area, according to Lt. Eddie Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau.

Aldana was interviewed by LASD Homicide detectives and agreed to indicate the exact location of where he had discarded the victim’s body, Hernandez said.

Investigators were sent to mile marker 7.98 on Sand Canyon Road around 10:50 a.m. on Thursday morning and found the body of Maximiliano Bernal, 22, of Newhall, who is believed to be a friend of the suspect.

Bernal was pronounced dead at the scene with at least one gunshot wound to his upper torso, said Capt. John Kades with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Aldana was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Thursday afternoon on suspicion of murder and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 29.

Aldana’s motive is unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
