Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Deputies are searching for a man who allegedly robbed two women at gunpoint at the Westfield Valencia Town Center on Saturday night.

According to public information officer for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Shirley Miller, two female employees were leaving work at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 when they were approached by a man.

“As they were walking to their car, they were confronted by a male, white, approximately 30 to 35 years old,” Miller said.

The man was wearing all black.

The victims told deputies that the man reached inside his jacket, where they saw a black handgun.

The man demanded that the victims hand over their purses and cell phones, and he fled the location, according to Miller.

“There were no injuries reported, and sheriff’s deputies have not been able to find him,” Miller said.

  1. Everyone needs to be vigilant, especially this time of year. Too many bad people who want to take your things, instead of working and getting their own!

  13. Sandy Smith says:

The Mall employees receive no security walking to their cars at night. When something worse happens who is responsible then? Westfield? I’ll look to them if something happened to my kids.

    • Seems impossible to escort all mall employees to their vehicles.

    • Sandy Smith says:

Shaun, there isn’t any security and they can’t park close. Sometimes the lights are even shut off, I get not everyone can be escorted to their cars. The mall must take some type of responsibility for late night employees or something will happen and it won’t be good press.

    • James Parker says:

If the employees don’t feel safe, maybe they should seek employment elsewhere

    • I work at Bath&Body and no one walks us to our cars. I’m so scared now.

    • I work here and I can tell u from experience that mall security has no interest in keeping anyone safe.

    • Sandy Smith says:

You look to young to have kids James Parker but if you had a daughter who had to close a store at the mall and walk to her car in the dark around 11pm unescorted and they can’t park close, you would think differently. Employers and the mall take no responsibility. Restaurants get fined a lot of money if employees park close. They keep tabs on that though.

    • James Parker that’s a pretty insensitive thing to say. This isn’t just a job for me. This is how I provide for my family. When I spoke to mall management about how unsafe it is to have 18 year old girls walk to their cars at 2 and 3 in the morning they blew me off and told me that we are just lucky we don’t have to shuttle in and park off premises. They are arrogant and don’t care about the people that work there. The only time we see mall security is when they are writing tickets to mall employees. It’s just a matter of time before someone actually gets hurt. I wonder then if anyone will care. Or if we will be told to “maybe seek employment elsewhere”.

    • Eliza Allen says:

As a former Westfield security guard, employee escorts at night are provided, given the employee makes the request. I’ve had an employee ask me to just watch them on camera until they got to their vehicle. Also nothing prevents any employee moving their vehicle closer to the front after the mall closes, just call security and let them know. Secondly the lights dont go off until way after the mall closes, I think 11 or midnight, and the go to 50% I believe. Finally overnight employees may park closer to the doors provided their vehicles is either gone or moved before the mall opens.

    • Cyndi Govea says:

I work out on the patios and where us employees are suppose to park is far! And dark! They should have more lighting and more security out at that time.

  14. Amy Chretien is this the same as your post?

  15. Karsyn Ann this must have been what you saw going on

  16. Laura Oswald Dangelo

  17. Eric Baker says:

I wonder if a CCW or a Gun Free Zone sign would’ve prevented this?

  18. Joyce did u hear about this

    • Omg no! But it is totally dangerous there, even walking with a friend there isn’t protection. I see comments about security in this thread, what would security do, they don’t carry! It’s a joke. When I lived in the AV deputies patrolled the mall, at least during holidays it would be great if they were staffed enough to have a strong presence there to deter the criminals.

      • Eliza Allen says:

The Sheriff’s do (or at least when I was security) have volunteer mounted officers that roam the parking lots during the day.

    • Yes it’s true I’ve seen cops at the mall parking lots elsewhere but not here un Valencia

  19. Did SCVTV just learn about this, it happened Sat. night :(

  20. And that’s all the police are going to do. Guy successfully got away. Westfield is ridiculous when it comes to employee parking. The security will ticket you and the store you work for for parking to close. And no one will escort you out if you ask. It’s a joke. Those girls should sue Westfield

    • When I worked at the ivy I refused to park on the upper levels seeing as I got off work past 8pm and would walk alone to my car. Hell no! They ticketed me a few times but screw them, my life is more important

    • Isn’t it crazy?! Watch.. they will probably make a statement saying they always ensure the workers safety and walk them to their cars or something. Wonder if anything will change

    • I park wherever the hell I want. They told me I can call them if I want an escort but other than that I have never seen any late at night anywhere even when I search for one

    • Oh yeah ONE mall cop is gonna come walk everyone to their car?! Yeah right! And no one has time to sit around and wait

    • There’s more than one security officer working at once…

    • Not late at night. There are only a couple and they never show. I think it’s ridiculous how they spend show much energy on having the guards stalk employees instead of keeping people safe or actually enforcing the smoking locations, reporting to stores when they call and ask for a security walk through due to suspicious behavior, and things like that. It’s a joke and I told my closers I didn’t care where they parked because I’d rather they be safe than something like this.

    • Yeah I work at the mall too and they make us park all the way to the back. I open so I’m fortunate to go to my car during daylight when I get off. The mall security sucks ass I’m telling you. One time our donation box got stolen and the the person who did it passed by a security and they “tried” to catch him but they didn’t. I always see them just roaming around the mall with ease and we would need to literally call the security office just to get their attention when there’s ruckus going around the mall.

    • When I worked there I parked where ever I wanted especially if I got off at 2 or 3 am. I can’t even say how many times I called for an escort and they never showed up even after being threatened by an angry customer. And there’s only 2 or 3 working at night and 1 can’t leave the office

    • Don’t mess with Paul Blart mall cop

    • They stalk you and ticket you but will not come when you need them for a “real” issue. It’s a joke! They will even ticket your car if you aren’t working!

    • Also they towed my co workers car away! It cost over $300 to get the car back!

  21. Edgar Corona says:

Marie Corona we were just there that night

  22. Troy Crisco says:

But, but it’s a gun free zone!

  23. Keith Dill says:

Rape! Armed robbery? Not so Awesome!! Junkies at the mall!

  24. I got robbed at target in Valencia a year ago and they made a report. I talked w the detective twice.. that’s it. He never returned my calls. He told me he couldn’t see anything on targets surveillance cameras because they were so out dated. And target sent home their LP person earlier that day because he was sick. I told him hey I talked to my bank, try tried using my card here and here at this time so check out their cameras. Nothing. So… Good luck w catching the guy. I’m sure of they really wanted to they would. There are cameras everywhere, at the mall and surrounding businesses.

  26. The more reason to shop online.

  27. That parking lot needs lights like a football field. It is way to dark. Especially someone with kids or employees leaving so late.

  28. Hi everyone! I live here in SCV and wanted to share what I have with you, I’ve also had an experience there myself recently. I am with a company called Damsel in Defense, and I equip women, men, & children with self defense tools. Pepper spray, stun guns, alarms, kubotans, etc. We happen to be having a 50% off sale that ends on the 15th of this month. I have a good sized order arriving tomorrow and can save you on shipping if you would like something from it, vs. ordering directly from my site. Please take a look at my site (www.ClassyDefense.com) and contact me if you have any questions or would like to equip yourself. I am happy to meet up with you locally to bring you your order. Thank you, and stay safe!

  33. Pauline Pelagio unnie, have u heard of this?

  34. Jay Salter says:

  41. Rollin West says:

  44. Jessica Gaffar Karen Bibo-Cozens

  45. Kim Benton says:

Savannah Benton read this and let the girls you work with know about this.

  46. Taylor Elgin says:

What makes me even more upset is Westfield makes it’s employees park in the DARKEST and FARTHEST part of the parking lot. If we don’t they fine the store we work at. Good job Westfield.

  47. Fatima Cantu Sosa be careful!

  48. People need to carrying pepper spray or tasers with the intent to use. This incident could happen anywhere & it does.

  49. Christina says:

The mall employee parking requirements in Valencia are ridiculous. If you exit the mall by Red Robin it is always very dark. You have to park all the way out in the second lot. The security guards can give me a ticket every single day after this you will never find my car way out in the employee parking.

  50. Gelly Vela says:

I was just there. Scary? Mike Enriquez

  51. Kristen Nolind Christensen Breeshea Hummitsch OMG yikes not okay!!

  52. Elitta Pace Sorenson?

  53. it was bound to catch up

  54. Taylor Elgin says:

    Security sent these out today

  55. Pat Willett says:

I saw several posts that said if the girls had been carrying guns, the bad guy would have been the victim. Sorry, folks, but if the girls were not well trained, they would probably have been victims of something even worse!
More people are killed by their own guns than by someone else.
