John Quigley sat in the Old Glory Oak for 72 days, saving it from a developer’s chain saw and winning the hearts of children and adults alike in the Santa Clarita Valley and throughout the world. However, his activism is not confined to trees: he also works on issues all over the world from climate change to globalization.

Julia Butterfly Hill is best known for having lived in a 180-foot tall, roughly 1500 year old California Redwood tree for 738 days between December 10, 1997 and December 18, 1999.

Hill lived in the tree, affectionately known as “Luna,” to prevent Pacific Lumber Company loggers from cutting it down.

She is the author of the best-selling book “The Legacy of Luna” and co-author of “One Makes the Difference”.
