Special-needs students from across the Hart School District will gather on the stadium field at Valencia High School for the fifth annual Hart Games 2014 Track and Field Meet, on Tuesday, March 25th, from 10 am to 1 pm. More than 325 students from throughout the Santa Clarita Valley have been training and practicing and are expected to participate. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free.
The district-wide competition is sponsored by the Adapted Physical Education Department, with their partner, the Special Olympics. The goal is to stimulate an interest in physical activity and competition among special needs students, and reward those who achieve. Competing, are students from La Mesa Junior High School, Rio Norte Junior High School, Canyon High School, Golden Valley High School, Valencia High School, Hart High School and Trinity Classical Academy.
The Valencia High School track team, graciously hosting again this year, is helping with equipment and has provided more than 40 volunteers to ensure the success of this event. The event features an opening ceremonies and a ceremonial lap around the track. Running and field events start with the 4 x 100 relay and also include: 50 yard dash, 100 yard dash, 200 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles, running long jump, high jump, shot put and softball throw contests. Events will be under way simultaneously across the field with students competing for ribbons.
“We are so proud of the athletes that are competing in this event. They have been training diligently and are very excited,” Patti Miller, director, said. “This event would not be successful without the teachers, volunteers and parents who are so generously donating their time to this program. We appreciate their support.”
