Are you a native Spanish speaker? Would you like to be in a play? Come out to the Newhall Community Center and participate with Crezca Teatro Comunitario, a new theatre project specifically for local Spanish speaking residents.
The project, working in partnership with the Newhall Community Center, is based on the Cornerstone Theatre model: working with local residents in a community, devising a play, and they produce and present the play.
“This is a very exciting project.” Says Carla Corona, Crezca’s associate producer. “It is a new opportunity for residents to participate in the arts.”
The program includes a playwright, two acting teachers, and grogram producer, all of which have extensive backgrounds in community projects and have worked around the country. The project is open to anyone 17 years and older. No experience is necessary.
The first meeting for Crezca will be Saturday March 7th at 11 am in the Newhall Community Center.
The project will culminate in performances throughout the Northern Los Angeles County Region. The opening performance will be Saturday July 11th at the Latin Music and Cultural Festival, as part of the LA SummerFEST.
Crezca is a community engagement project developed by the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival, whose mission includes reaching the entire community with creative and theatre experiences.
