NORTHRIDGE – The CSUN men’s and women’s track and field teams travel to the Stanford Invitational this weekend.
A two-day event, action gets underway with the field events on Friday at 9:00 a.m. Friday’s track action begins at 11:30 a.m. The collegiate field events are set to get underway on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Saturday’s collegiate running races will start at 1:37 p.m. with the women’s 4x100m relay.
CSUN hosted the Northridge Invitational Mar. 24 where the Matadors won 18 individual events, 11 on the men’s side, seven on the women’s side. CSUN’s Erick Loomis was selected Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week Mar. 27. Matthew Arnold is nationally ranked in two events this week. He won both the triple jump (48-11) and the long jump (23-11 3/4) at the Northridge Invitational. Arnold is 41st in the triple jump and 54th in the long jump.
At the Northridge Invitational, Loomis uncorked a throw of 211-04 to break the Matador hammer throw record of 207-10 set in 2005 by Tim Selby. Loomis won the event by more than 28 feet. That distance not only represents the No. 1 mark in the Big West by a wide margin but ranks him No. 17 nationally.
Brandy Williams won the women’s shot put at the Northridge Invitational with a toss of 52-6. Her performance ranks her 17th in Division I this week. Sydney Berry won the triple jump at the Northridge Invitational by going 41-1 1/2. That mark is the 17th best in Division I this week.
