1934 - Bouquet Canyon Reservoir, replacement for ill-fated St. Francis Dam & reservoir, begins to fill with water [story]

“As Mayor, I would like to thank the decision makers at the U.S. Postal Service for responding to the needs of the Newhall Community to locate the permanent Lyons Avenue post office in Newhall. I am grateful to all of the residents and businesses who notified the USPS of the importance of maintaining a Newhall Post office. Hearing from the community definitely made all of the difference in having these vital services available in an easy to reach location with plenty of parking,” said Mayor Marsha McLean.

Following a large response from the Santa Clarita community, United States Postal Service (USPS) officials recently announced their top choice for the Newhall Post Office at a location on Lyons Avenue in the Newhall community.

The USPS site selection committee met on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 and toured the four contending sites for the “new” Newhall post office.  Their choices in order of preference are:

#1 site- 23736 Lyons Ave (Former Dave’s Meats).

#2 site- 23644 Lyons Ave (Former Pizza Parlor).

#3 site- 25548 The Old Road, Unit U1 (current location).

#4 site- 23120-23128 Lyons Avenue (Wayman Court Center)

USPS officials said that given the community input, it was important to locate the permanent facility back in Newhall. The USPS received hundreds of postcards and letters from Santa Clarita residents during the 30-day comment period.

In the next 30 days, post office officials will be working with the owner of the number one site on details that need to be finalized prior to a lease signing.  After 30 days the Postal Service can sign a lease and proceed.

As the former tenant I can attest it is a falling down old building, plumbing that comes up in all the floor drains, rats the size of cats and a landlord that will not spend a penny to fix anything.

  25. Jennifer Preach says:

Location #1 is my vote. Ample parking is available. It id a great location for Newhall residents because it is actually in Newhall. Location #4 is in Valencia and too far for those on the Golden Valley side of Newhall.

  26. Joe why you did not get the location. They had a different type of Business in mind.

    • Joe Carbone Joe Carbone says:

Im happy to get the post office back – I dont need a retail location, I need an industrial location.. this is better as a post office. I’ve been counting the hours lost since they moved the Post Office to SRanch and its well over 50 hours of my time.. this will make things convenient again and help my business directly. Cant wait for it to open.

  27. Cathy says:

That site used to be one of the 2 grocery stores that served Newhall back in the 40s or 50s, Country Cousins. It could even be older. Kinda appropriate they choose an older building. They are keeping a little bit of our history alive.

  28. Rex Nere Rex Nere says:

I belong to the local GOP group in Oregon, they were all about getting rid of the USPS. I think not having a Post Office is like moving us back to a forth world country. I think they just don’t like working people making a fair living at a job like this. Glad to see Newhall is still on the map, so to speak.

  29. Now Ms. mayor. How about a 24 hr. Urgent care on the south east side of town. We have better emergency care here for our pets than our kids and elderly. We feel like stepchildren. Maybe people on this side of town wouldn’t use the emergency room at the hospt. So much. Are u listening?

  30. Andrew Myers Andrew Myers says:

    i want daves meets back

  31. Babs Semko Babs Semko says:

Thank you, thank you, thank you. (You can tell I am happy.)
