The California Department of Motor Vehicles’ final day of Saturday office hours will be October 24, 2015.
“By providing extended hours, we have been able to successfully serve the enormous influx of Assembly Bill 60 driver license applicants while continuing to provide timely service to all our customers,” said DMV Director Jean Shiomoto. “Now that the initial wave of AB 60 applicants has subsided and we have returned to normal operations, we no longer need to keep our field offices open on Saturdays.”
The DMV temporarily extended hours at 60 designated field offices on Jan. 3, 2015, to meet the increased demand for driver licenses generated by the implementation of AB 60, the Safe and Responsible Drivers Act. AB 60 allows for undocumented individuals to apply for an original driver license with acceptable proof of identity and California residency.
An estimated 487,000 driver licenses have been issued under AB 60 since its implementation on January 2, 2015. The DMV anticipates it will process approximately 1.4 million AB 60 related driver license applications by January of 2018.
The DMV continues to offer driver license related services, Monday – Friday, at its four driver license processing centers in Granada Hills, Stanton, San Jose, and Lompoc. Customers can also schedule Monday – Friday appointments at all full service field offices up to 90 days in advance by visiting www.dmv.ca.gov or calling 1-800-777-0133.
