Pledge to recycle for America Recycles Day
America Recycles Day (ARD) is a program to Keep America Beautiful and it’s the only nationally-recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. Communities across the country participate in ARD to promote environmental citizenship and encourage action. Last year, ARD volunteers celebrated recycling by organizing 2,056 events at schools, colleges and universities, parks, government facilities, retail locations and workplaces.
This year, ARD is Friday, November 15, 2013 and the City is partnering with Waste Management to host a Recycling Rally at the Canyon Country Community Center. The kids enrolled in the after-school program will be treated to a Curiosity Quest episode about recycling, a snack, a recycling presentation, games and free giveaways. Recycling is something everyone can do to make a difference and do their part. Here are some recycling tips to get your family started:
- Rinse and flatten cans, milk cartons and jugs to save space and energy
- Metal jar lids can be placed with your tin cans
- No need to remove labels
- Plastic bags are only recyclable if they have the recycling symbol. They can be included with the rest of your recyclables
- To bag your plastic bags, place all your grocery store plastic bags, dry cleaning plastic bags, or any other plastic bags inside of one plastic bag. Residents should then place the full plastic bag in the recycling bin
- Metal materials that are acceptable for recycling include: aluminum cans, foil, trays, tin cans, and bi-metal cans
- Plastic materials that are acceptable for recycling include: plastic bags, plastic water bottles, shampoo bottles, and food containers that are marked #1 through #7 (please make sure containers are rinsed out)
- Paper materials that are acceptable for recycling include: newspapers, magazines, cereal boxes and junk mail
In addition to your curbside cart for your home, Santa Clarita has numerous locations to recycle things from aluminum cans to used motor oil to paint. Find these locations at GreenSantaClarita.com. Take the pledge now and encourage others to recycle!
