“The best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry,” wrote the poet Robert Burns, which inspired the title of John Steinbeck’s beloved classic novel “Of Mice and Men.”
The College of the Canyons theatre department will present its production of the Nobel-Prize winning author’s novel at the college’s Black Box theater Nov. 20-24.
Addressing the themes of friendship, loneliness and the pursuit of the American dream, “Of Mice and Men” has captured the hearts of readers ever since its publication in 1937.
Set in California’s Salinas Valley, the novel revolves around the lives of two migrant workers, George Milton and Lennie Small and their quest for a better life amidst the Great Depression.
“The College of the Canyons theatre department is very pleased to offer audiences an opportunity to see an American treasure that audiences of all ages will be moved by,” said Paul Wickline, chair of the COC theatre department and producer of “Of Mice and Men.” “Don’t miss this opportunity to see a timeless classic by one of American’s greatest novelists.”
Directed by Stephen Whelan, “Of Mice and Men” opens at the Black Box theater at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, and continues at 8 p.m. Nov. 21 to 23. A final matinee performance will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24.
Tickets for all performances are $10 for adults and $5 for students/seniors.
