The California Department of Transportation will host its second Innovation Fair at the Caltrans District 7 Plaza in downtown Los Angeles on Monday, Oct. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The 2018 Innovation Fair will feature the latest advancements in technology and innovative concepts in transportation.
Caltrans employees, local transportation agencies and private industries will present new approaches to active transportation, wildlife protection, safety and security improvements, communicating with the public through virtual reality, and advancing workflow processes.
The fair also will feature some of the private sectors’ latest approaches to improve technology, safety, and efficiency in transportation.
* Caltrans employees will exhibit an active transportation village which showcases personal mobility devices that display advances in active transportation.
* L.A. Metro (Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority) will introduce the Automated Video Occupancy Detection System, a pilot program on Interstate 110.
* California High-Speed Rail Authority will present the nation’s first High-Speed Rail System and their innovative sustainability program.
* The National Park Service will display GPS collars for wildlife tracking, cages, and home range detection devices that prioritizes wildlife protection.
* 3M will display the thermoplastic reflective tape for striping that improves safety on California’s roadways.
Kicking off the Innovation Fair, transportation leaders and executives will provide insight on the importance of innovation and keep up with the ever-increasing demands of a rapidly changing transportation system. They will acknowledge the diverse and abundant workforce of Caltrans, local agencies, and private industries that contribute their passion and ideas to respond to these challenges.

* Shirley Choate, Chief Deputy District Director, Caltrans District 7
* John Bulinski, District Director, Caltrans District 7
* Dan Mitchell, Assistant General Manager and Chief Engineer, LADOT
The fair will be held outdoors at the Caltrans District 7 Plaza, 100 South Main St., Los Angeles.
