The Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund is pleased to announce that our Annual Fight It race is on Oct. 8 this year. The race raises thousands of dollars to help young professionals across The United States battling cancer by providing financial assistance.

According to the National Cancer Institute that about 70,000 young people (ages 15-39) are diagnosed with cancer each year in the United States. This is about six times the number of cancers diagnosed in children ages 0-14.

Our 10K/5K/1K race and walk-a-thon is open to walkers and runners of all abilities…and their canine companions, too. This is a cross country trail so runners will appreciate a break from pounding their joints on concrete and asphalt and absolutely love this race.

We have options to run in person or VIRTUALLY – run the Fight It! 1K/5K/10K anywhere. All pre-registrants receive a tech shirt. All finishers (including virtually) receive a medal.

New this year is the opportunity to win a free cruise courtesy of Princess Cruises. For every $250 you raise your name will be put into a raffle for a $1200 Princess Cruises Gift Card. This card can be used towards any cruise you want on Princess Cruises.

Have funds leftover on the card? Use it towards your bar bill, for shore excursions or for a massage on board. It’s up to you.

Register now at www.fightit5k.com

JCI Santa Clarita, our local Junior Chamber chapter are proud supporters of the event and provide volunteers to help staff the race. To volunteer please contact Heather Kennedy at hcorcoran@me.com

About the fund:

The Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund (BMCF) supports patients ages 18-40 as they undergo cancer treatment. It provides services to meet daily needs that are not covered by insurance. Typical grants cover $500 worth of medical co-payments, rent and mortgage, transportation, car insurance, repairs, and groceries.

Since Brenda founded it in 2001, the Fund has provided $280,888 in services for 406 young adults across 30 different states. She built it for young adults her age to maintain self-respect during months of treatment and minimize the stress of associated financial challenges. Even though she is no longer with us, we are working to fulfill Brenda’s vision of a nationwide support organization that helps young adults fight – and beat – the disease.
