PASADENA, Calif. – Competing as an individual for The Master’s College men’s golf team, Robert Penalber placed eighth out of a field off 44 competitors after carding a collective score of 230 (75-80-75) at the Mariners Fall Invitational.
“We are very proud of Robert to finish in the top 10 at his first collegiate event as a freshman within our program,” commented TMC’s head coach Jason Semelsberger. “He exhibited poise and concentration in the midst of the competition. We expect that he will only continue to improve as he continues to train hard on the right things.”
Penalber signed with the Mustangs over the summer after crafting an impressive resume at the Academy for Academic Excellence where he was a four-year member of the National Honor Society, earned National Society of High School Scholars honors his junior and senior years, and earned the school’s scholar-athlete award as a sophomore, junior, and senior
On the golf course, Penalber earned Cross Valley League MVP honors as a junior and senior, was highlighted as the Daily Press’ Athlete of the Week as a junior and senior, earned first-team all-league kudos throughout his prep career, and captained AAE’s golf team as a junior and a senior. Notably, Penalber set a league record for the lowest nine-hole score by shooting 4-under 32.
Looking ahead, Penalber and the Mustangs will enjoy a lengthy break before competing again February 7-8 at the CSUSM Cougar Invite. The two-day event will take place at the Shadowridge Country Club in Vista.
