The city of Santa Clarita has closed a portion of the San Francisquito Creek Trail to begin construction on the replacement of an existing access ramp with a new ramp that will be Americans with Disabilities Act compliant.
The access ramp being replaced is located on the west side of the San Francisquito Creek Trail connecting to the south side of Newhall Ranch Road. The ramp and surrounding trail area will be closed for up to nine weeks and construction is expected to be completed by the end of August.
Construction hours will be Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. Businesses in the area should expect periodic construction noises and trail users are advised to take alternate routes.
Nearby residents and businesses have been notified with details of the project and contact information. Signage regarding the closure has been posted along the trail and at the bridge.
This project is part of the city’s efforts to upgrade the trail infrastructure to maintain the area’s high quality trails.
The existing ramp being replaced does not comply with ADA requirements or the California Building Code due to its relatively short length and steep slope. Upgrading this ramp to meet ADA standards will provide mobility disability access to Newhall Ranch Road.
