The Santa Clarita Valley will be the center of the high school baseball playoff universe today with three teams in action in the CIF quarterfinals.
West Ranch, the Foothill League champion, takes on Orange Lutheran, the top-seeded team in the Southern Section Division 1 bracket and by many accounts the No. 1 team in the nation.
West Ranch will send ace J.C. Cloney to the mound. He is 8-1 with a 1.57 ERA.
Saugus plays Newbury Park. Justin Donatella will start for the Centurions. He is 9-2 with a 2.04 ERA.
Newbury Park will counter with Luke Eubank, who has thrown three no-hitters this season.
The Santa Clarita Christian baseball team faces Dunn in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs at The Master’s College.
Santa Clarita Christian’s Ryan Fullarton, at 6-3 with a 1.79 ERA, will get the start. Dunn has scored 53 runs in its two playoffs games and has allowed only nine runs.
All games are set to start at 3:15.
In high school track and field, eight athletes from the Santa Clarita Valley will be competing in the Masters Meet today at Cerritos College for a chance to compete in the CIF state meet.
Hart’s Tim White is competing in two events, the high jump and triple jump. He is the Southern Section Division III champion in both events.
Austin O’Neil from Hart is running in the 1,600. He won the race at the Southern Section Division III finals.
Canyon has two girls competing in the Masters Meet. Taylor Thomas is in the 100 hurdles. She set the Foothill League record in the race at the Southern Section finals in 14.18 seconds.
Tiffini Stone is competing in the long jump.
Karis Frankian from Saugus is competing in the 3,200.
Ashley Welker from West Ranch is racing in the 800.
Nick Bultman, also from West Ranch, is competing in the shot put.
Valencia’s Clint Gingrich is in the long jump.
