CIFSouthernSection10thanniversarySanta Clarita Sports Report: November 11, 2015

Santa Clarita High School Volleyball
It was the Foothill League vs the Marmonte League Wednesday night in the opening round of the Division 1A playoffs, and the results were as expected, with the leagues splitting the four matches, 2-2.

League champion Valencia swept Calabasas in straight sets and advance to the 2nd round on Thursday. The Vikings were awarded a 2nd straight home playoff game and take on Villa Park.

Valencia and Villa Park have played a common opponent this season, each faced Thousand Oaks back in September. Valencia won and Villa Park lost, respectively.

The Vikings have an excellent opportunity to move on to the Quarter-Final round. First serve is at 7:00PM at Valencia High School.
Hart needed a game one loss to Newbury Park to come alive in the final three sets. The Indians dominated the rest of the way, outscoring the Panthers, 75-40 to take a 3-1 match victory.

Hart now hits the road tomorrow for a trip to Chino Hills High School, their 2nd round match-up. First serve is at 7:00PM and should be a thrilling match that goes the distance.

It was a raucous night at Thousand Oaks High between the Lancers and the West Ranch Wildcats, and West Ranch gave the home team all they could handle in a wild five-game match.

Momentum was on the ‘Cats side after crushing the Lancers in the 3rd game, 25-11 and taking a 2-1 lead into the 4th. However, the Lancers stormed back to take the final two games and send the Wildcats home for the season. Congratulations to West Ranch on a good season.

Tough break for the Lady Centurions, wholly overmatched at Westlake HS but battled til the end en route to a 3-0 loss.
Saugus probably shouldn’t have been in the playoffs with a 9-19 record, but it took guts going into a hostile environment like Westlake and the girls played with pride.

Moving on to the Division 5AA bracket, two more Santa Clarita schools are on to the 2nd round: one via 1st round bye, the other via 1st round three-game sweep.

Trinity took care of business Tuesday, punishing Valley Christian in straight sets. The Knights head down to Glendale Adventist tomorrow evening for a match with the Cougars. First serve is at 5:30PM.

Fresh off a 1st round bye, No.1 overall seed SCCS will get Hamilton at home Thursday. The Cardinals have won 13 of 15 matches entering the tournament.

Los Angeles Lakers

Chris Bosh led the way with 30 points for the Miami Heat as they defeated the Kobe-less Lakers, 101-88 Tuesday night. It was a 49-50 game at halftime before the Heat pulled away in the 2nd half.

Nick Young hit five 3-pointers to the lead the Lakers in scoring with 17 points.

Lakers head coach Byron Scott opted to sit Kobe Bryant (back) due to a flare up after the game Sunday in New York. Sitting Bryant for rest and for precaution is the plan the team will follow all season long. Expect Kobe to appear in 45-50 games this season at best.
LA crosses the halfway point of the road trip with a 1-2 record (1-6 overall) and heads over to Orlando for the 2nd of a Florida back-t0-back with the Magic. Tipoff is at 4:00PM PT.
