On Nov. 4, 2014 voters who reside within the boundaries of the Saugus Union School District expressed their support for public education by passing Measure EE. Measure EE, a Prop 39 school facilities bond, is proposed to help modernize, add necessary technology upgrades, renovate, and revitalize SUSD Schools.

Funds generated from the authorized bonds will be used for a variety of school district capital projects. These projects will help the District in meeting its educational goals to educate the students in our community.

Of specific need are three new committee member to serve as a business representative, a parent of a current SUSD student and an active PTO, PTA, Site Council in SUSD. Current members whose term is set to expire are able to apply for a new term.

The District is required to form a Citizens’ Oversight Committee, comprised of specified members of the community to assist the District in reviewing the expenditures of bond funds as they occur. The Committee must include at least seven members of the community who will be appointed by the Governing Board of the School District.

Service is without compensation and the Committee is expected to meet at least quarterly. Service on the Committee is a good opportunity for interested members of the community to learn more about the District and its facilities plans and to support the District and its mission of public education. Employees of the district and vendors, consultants, and contractors who work for, or provide services to, the District may not serve on the Committee. Members of School District PTAs, PTOs, PTCs, PFOs, and Site Councils are encouraged to apply.

If you are interested in serving on the Committee, or know someone who might be interested, we urge you to contact the District (using the contact information listed below).

Applications for membership on the Committee must be submitted on the District’s Citizens’ Oversight Committee (COC) Application Form. The Application Form is available upon request and can be downloaded from the Saugus Union School District Website at www.saugususd.org. Application Forms should be hand delivered or addressed to: Saugus Union School District, Attention: Mr. Nick Heinlein, Assistant Superintendent of Business at 24930 Avenue Stanford, Santa Clarita, CA 91355 and should be mailed to be received by 4:00 PM on Friday, August 10, 2018. Applications submitted or received after the deadline will not be considered. Please note that under State law, the District cannot hold the completed Applications as confidential documents.

The selection process for Committee applicants will include a review of the applications and a possible interview by a subcommittee of the Board. Final selection and appointment of the members of the Committee will be by the Governing Board and is scheduled for approval at the September 4, 2018 Governing Board Meeting.

Questions and/or comments concerning the Committee, the application process, the Application Form and associated materials should be directed to Mr. Nick Heinlein, Assistant Superintendent of Business, at 661-294-5300.

Upon request, interested community members will receive:
1) The Application Form for Citizens’ Oversight Committee membership
2) The Policies and Regulations for the Measure EE Citizens’ Oversight Committee
3) The bond project list. These items are also available on the District’s website at www.saugususd.org.
