Varsity golf outshoots AGBU at Hansen Dam
Cardinal London Taylor fired a three-over par 39 to lead Santa Clarita Christian School to a 260-270 win over AGBU on March 21 at the Hansen Dam Golf Course. Samantha Villapando led the Cardinal girls with a 55 on a day when the sun was hot and the greens were fast.
Other scores were:
Thomas Zeilinger – 45
Kristina Yun – 57
Sally Go – 64
Trevor Caldwell – 70
The contest was a non-league match.
Walk-off walk: Varsity softball edges Desert Christian
SCCS catcher Kimberly Curry went 3-for-4 and knocked in three runs to lead the varsity softball team past Desert Christian, 8-7 on March 20.
Aubrey Robinson collected a pair of hits and two RIB’s, while pitcher Shelby Boswell went 2-for-4 from the plate and struck out four batters from the circle.
But for all the offensive fireworks, the contest was decided by the keen eye of Cardinal Sierra Aguilar, who worked a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh to force home the wining run.
A pair of firsts for Kirshner and a personal best for Perrault
SCCS swimmer Victoria Kirshner continued her successful season last week, swimming to first place finishes in both the 100-meter backstroke and the 100-meter butterfly.
The CIF-SS event took place at William J McAdam Park in Palmdale on March 19.
Kirshner’s times were 1:01.97 in the 100 backstroke and 1:02.78 in the butterfly. Both were fast enough to qualify her for the CIF-SS championships, which will take place later this season.
Cardinal teammate Madeleine Perrault also turned in a strong performance. Perrault swam the 100-meter freestyle in 1:18.70, good enough for third place. She also took third in the 100-meter breaststroke in a time of 1:43.50.
Notably, Perrault’s time in the breaststroke was a full 1.75 seconds faster than her previous season’s best, which she set the week before.
